12 Essential Elements of Strong Senior Leadership Teams

Strong senior leadership teams (SLTs) are the heart of successful organizations. In competitive and fast-paced environments they collectively sense the future and drive performance. For a variety of reasons SLTs are difficult to build. They’re frequently filled with strong personalities and complicated politics. Increasingly, they’re geographically dispersed. Their work together is often long-term, complex, and ill-defined. All of which leads members to gravitate toward the more familiar and immediate work of running their own organizations over the work of the SLT. Despite the potential value of SLTs, they commonly end up defaulting into loosely connected info-sharing groups rather than cohesive direction-setting teams. While there are no simple solutions to strengthening an SLT, there is a roadmap. Drawing on 25-plus years of experience advising SLTs we’ve codified twelve essential elements across four areas most indicative of strong SLTs. Understanding Team Dynamics

The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.” – Phil Jackson Team dynamics is the way team members operate and interact with each other. It is the interactions and relationships between team members who work together to attain a shared goal. Team dynamics plays a huge role when it comes to the effectiveness and efficiency level of teams. Strong team dynamics creates collaboration and support among team members leading to a synergetic effect and productive teamwork. Poor team dynamics is usually a result of poor communication and leads to distrust among team members as well as lack of cohesion and low productivity. Strong team dynamics rely on effective communication skills, strong problem-solving skills, healthy conflict-resolution tactics, genuine connection, trust, and respect among members. Leaders are responsible for creating this type of dynamics in a team beginning with selecting the right people, setting common goals, communicating clear roles and responsibilities, encouraging open communication, and selecting leaders of the teams. አማርኛ Group እና Team – ቡድን የሚል ተመሳሳይ ፍቺ ያስቀምጥላቸዋል፡፡ ነገር ግን እነዚህ ሁለት ቃላቶች ልዩነታቸው ሰፊ ነው፡፡ Group ስብስብን የሚገልጽ ሲሆን Team ውህደትና ቅንጅትን ሲያሳይ በጋራ አብሮ የመስራትና ከፍ ያለ ውጤትና ዕሴት የመፍጠርን ፍልስፍና ያካትታል፡፡ ከዚህም በተጨማሪ Team የሚለው ቃል ዕጅግ የላላ ትርጉም ተሰጥቶት Group የሚለውን ቃል በሚገልጽ መልኩ አብረው የሚሰሩ የሰዎችን ስብስብ ለመግለጽ ጥቅም ላይ ሲውል ይታያል፡፡ ይህ ፍጹም ስህተት ነው፡፡ ለምሳሌ የአመራር ቲም (Leadership Team) ወይንም የበላይ ቲም (Senior Management Team) የሚሉ አገላለጾች አባላቱ ፍጹም በቲም የመስራት ዝንባሌ በማይታይባቸው ሁኔታዎች ጥቅም ላይ ሲውል ይታያል፡፡ ቲም ከቡድን በበርካታ መስፈርቶች በዕጅጉ የተለየ ነው፡፡ ሰዎች በGroup ሲሰሩ ግላዊ ውጤታቸው ላይ የሚያተኩሩ ሲሆን Team ግን ለጋራ ውጤት በጋራ ተጠያቂነት ላይ ያተኩራል (እዚህ ላይ የሩጫና የእግር ኳስ ስፖርቶችን እንደምሳሌ መውሰድ ይቻላል)፡፡ ከዚህ በተጨማሪ ደግም የሚከተሉት ጎልተው የሚወጡ ልዩነቶች ናቸው፡፡ • ትብብርና ቅንጅት የሚጠይቅ የጋራ ዓላማ • በሚሰሩት ስራ የሚኖራቸው መተሳሰር፤ ለምሳሌ የአንዱ ስራ በሌላኛው ላይ የተመሰረተ መሆን • እርስ በርስ ባላቸው የጋራ መደጋገፍ • ለጋራ ጥረታቸውና ድክመታቸው በጋራ የሚወስዱት ኃላፊነት ናቸው፡፡
